Clutch
and Torque Spring Change Out How To
(works on most
scooters)
The scooter used in
this write up is a 2007 Yamaha Vino 125.
These instruction should work on most scooters.

First, if you don't have oil passage block installed then you can
either lean
the scooter to one side by putting a 2x4 under one side of the center
stand
or just drain the oil.
Now remove the kick start and then the tranny cover.
You'll need an impact gun to remove the front pulley (left) and the
clutch bell(right)
Remove the front pulley to remove the belt then finally remove the
clutch assembly
which consists of the clutch bell on the outside, the clutch in the
middle then torque
cam which the belt sits in.
CLUTCH:

LOCATION OF THE TORQUE SPRING:

Now you need to remove the large nut on top of the clutch. Using
a regular wrench
or impact gun will not work here. You need a vise and either a
strap wrench or oil
filter chain wrench.

Secure the large nut in the vise and proceed to grab a hold of it with
your strap/oil filter
wrench and turn it to the left.
I highly recommend you have someone to
help you at this point!

While one person is SLOWLY turning the clutch the other should
be
pushing down on the top. It takes roughly 3 turns to get the nut off
and
when it does the torque spring will rapidly expand so if you don't have
pressure on the toque cam if will fly off and could damage it or injure
you and/or your helper.

To change out the torque spring, simply remove the old on and put the
new
one in its place.
Next are the clutch springs. They're located under a ring on the clutch
which
is held on with 3 clips. Remove them with a small flathead screwdriver
then remove the ring.

Now remove the clutch springs usings a small flathead screwdriver.
Be very careful when doing this! Don't
let your grip slip!
You'll put your eye out kid!
Do these one at a time. Remove one then replace it right away.
When putting everything back together make sure that the post that the
torque spring is on lines up with the hole in the clutch. It's not
round,
it's flat on each side.

Now have you helper push down on each side while you tighten
the large nut back on. Then put it back in the vise and tighten it
back up using your strap/oil filter wrench.
Now reinstall the clutch, clutch bell, belt and front pulley to their
normal places.

I recommend that before putting the tranny cover back on you clean the
inside
of all the funk that has found a home there.
If you drained the oil then go ahead and fill 'er back up.
Start it up on the center stand and let it run for a few minutes. Rev
it now
and then and listen for anything out of usually. If everything
sounds good
then that means you didn't mess anything up.
Now hop on and enjoy your higher performance.
